Acne

Acne is a common skin condition affecting most people at some point in their lives.

It can cause spots, oily skin, and even skin that's hot or painful to touch. If you're struggling with acne, don't worry - you're not alone. There are many treatment options available to help improve your skin and boost your confidence.

What causes acne?

Understanding the science behind it can help you manage it better. Acne is often triggered by hormonal changes. Hormones can cause grease-producing glands to produce excess oil, leading to inflammation and pus. Cleaning the skin won't remove blockages caused by thickened hair follicles.

What are the symptoms of acne?

Acne mostly affects skin on your face, back and chest. From blackheads and whiteheads to papules, pustules, nodules, and cysts, each type of spot requires a different approach for treatment and prevention. Understanding your skin is key to achieving clear and healthy skin.

Who gets acne?

About 95% of people aged 11 to 30 are affected by acne to some extent. It's most common in girls aged 14-17 and boys aged 16-19. While most people see improvements as they get older, some continue to struggle into adulthood.

Although acne cannot be cured, it can be controlled with treatment. Our pharmacy team can advise you on the best treatments available including prescription medication if necessary.
