Insect bites
+
Insect bites and stings usually result in a red raised patch of skin. They can be extremely itchy and the inflammation can cause discomfort. Most insect bites and stings, though unpleasant, are not serious and can be easily treated, with the symptoms normally improving within a few hours or days.
Head lice
+
Head lice are very common in young children and their families. Contrary to popular belief, they don't have anything to do with dirty hair. Head lice are small insects that live in human hair; they are grey and are the size of a sesame seed when fully grown.
Scabies
+
Scabies is a highly contagious skin infection caused by mites that burrow into the skin and lay eggs, resulting in intense itching and rash. It can spread rapidly in crowded environments, such as nursing homes. Early detection and treatment are crucial to prevent further transmission.
Threadworms
+
Threadworms are parasites which measure up to 1/2 inch in length and look like threads of cotton. The worms are white, with a blunt head and a pointed tail. They can live for up to six weeks and are easily passed on and very common in children.
