What is Mounjaro?

Mounjaro is an injection pen that you can administer yourself once a week, using a small needle into your thigh, upper arm, or abdomen.

The active drug in Mounjaro, tirzepatide, works by reducing feelings of hunger and food cravings while increasing feelings of fullness. This leads to reduced food intake, resulting in weight loss, with the potential to lose up to 20% of your body weight.* Your pharmacist will guide you to begin with 2.5mg weekly, gradually increasing your dose to 5mg, 10mg, or the maximum of 15mg weekly based on your specific requirements.

We recommend adding physical activity and a calorie-reduced diet to your weight loss plan for maximum benefit. By combining the two, you have the potential to lose up to 10kg more (over 72 weeks) using Mounjaro than with diet and exercise alone.*

Your pharmacist will be available to provide guidance to create an effective routine tailored to your needs.

Can you get Mounjaro on the NHS?

Mounjaro is currently only available through specialist NHS clinics with strict eligibility criteria. However free consultations are available online and at your local pharmacy where you can discuss private treatment and check if you’re eligible for Mounjaro.

How long does Mounjaro stay in your system?

When taken consistently once a week, Mounjaro will stay in your system and continue taking effect. Once you’re at the end of your treatment, Mounjaro will remain in your system for around 30 days.

Can you take Mounjaro a day early?

You should take Mounjaro on the same day each week and exactly as your healthcare provider advises you to. However, if it is necessary, you can change the day of your weekly injection, as long as it has been at least 3 days since your last injection. Once you’ve changed the day, make sure you stick to it and don’t change the dosing day too often, as this could reduce the efficacy and increase your risk of side effects.

Can you drink alcohol while using Mounjaro?

It is possible to drink alcohol in moderation while using Mounjaro. This is because alcohol is linked to weight gain, therefore it is counterproductive to drink alcohol during your treatment. It may also increase your risk of experiencing side effects. Your pharmacist will discuss your current habits and make bespoke recommendations for you.
